Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
For me it's served a few different purposes. When I started it was to relieve panic attacks...for whatever reason it stopped them cold for a while.
They stopped working as panic-stoppers, but by then I was using it as a way to release anger. If I scream and yell and attack other people, I go to jail or psych ward. If I "attack" myself, nobody cares.
Another reason, for me, is almost verifying that I'm still breathing. When shit gets really bad and I feel like the walking dead, seeing the blood is reassuring somehow.
All of this sounds insane, I'm sure, and probably is, but those are at least my reasons. My mom has a very hard time with it as well, and I don't blame her.
