Dix, triggers are extremely individual. I am sorry you were triggered and I would say that others (especially on FB) are not responsible for avoiding your triggers. As much as you hate that song- others find it to be empowering, and other still found it an avenue to open a dialog about a difficult situation.

Was it Jeremy or Janie's Got a Gun? Those are the only two vids from them that I know of that could be triggering
I would say please be a little more sensitive, some of us have had experiences that are like this and we don't want to see shit like that

I doubt very much he knows. Some people have no triggers to anything or very different things. It's impossible to avoid all triggers at all times. Hugs.

It wasn't the song....as much as the video! And I can't see how anyone! would not be affected by it! Even people without triggers! But I guess you make a point....though I can't understand or see how. I'll drop it.

If it is the one I think it is, that video made me cry as a kid and it is also about some pretty dark subject matter. I have passed on posting at least two links because they were too dark. There needs to be some care put into what links are posted. That said: I don't think the person had malicious intent.

No, I'm sure there was no malicious intent.....and I'm sure the poster did not realize at all about triggers. I have never even heard of the band! And since it was a friend I clicked on it to see what she had posted.

Honestly did not know I could be triggered like that. It was awful, and really traumatic for me.

I didn't say anything as I'm afraid I would offend her, but at the same time I wish there was a way to explain to her the possibilities of what that video could do to people. since I'm not a 'close' friend I don't think she would be receptive.

Lesson learned: Don't view ANY videos from that band!!!

I've learned from past experiences that triggers are extremely personal, and what may trigger you one day might not trigger you on another day, depending on your frame of mind.

Having said that, I'm sorry that you were so badly upset and it's a reminder for me to try to remember to label my music when I post songs, as I never know who I might be effecting.

I don't think you should be angry at the person that posted the video on FB. (trust me on this, it would be misplaced anger....) Just know that you are extremely sensitive and don't open links to videos unless you know ahead of time what the link is, etc.

Yes your right Gidget....I realize that after I have calmed down. I'm not mad at her, she innocently does not know. But it really was horrible!
I think it would bother me any time.

But that is an interesting thought about mood and triggers....I can see that.
