Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
There's no need to make a statement! You can be transgender without taking out a full page ad in the paper. You can let life happen to you at its own pace.
I know so many teenagers who want to be this or that, and they have this terrible burden of guilt, and terrible fear of how they will be seen. They have no idea that their parents don't take anything they say all that seriously anyway, so they may as well tell the truth.
Your mother would rather have a live transgender son than a dead transgender daughter. You might get some arguments, but so what? Why not. She's your mother. She's spent at last 17 yrs saving you from yourself so far, the habit is ingrained. If she's right, great. If she's wrong, she'll get used to it eventually.
I have no idea where that place is, but I hope others can help you find it.
I do know that once we stop living our lies (does not matter if it is living the wrong gender, or hiding our depression or other things) THEN we can begin to get better.
Please, if you are not getting therapy now look for a good therapist. Make sure it is one who is trained in transgender issues, and has some experience.
Coming out to your mother will be hard, but if you have some good therapy behind you, and a plan in front of you, then the two of you will survive. More importantly, you will survive!
Speaking as a dad, I want my children to be happy, and I would be very sad if they led a dismal life because they were afraid of what I might think.
