Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I'm very glad to joing this community, my dear friends!
Let me ask you a question.
Is marijuana effective in treating depression?
Yesterday I read this article about treating depression with marijuana
What do you think about it?

I smoke every now and then and it makes a huge difference! The only thing is I have addiction problems (I know they say you can't be addicted to marijuana). I try not to overdue it because I know it could turn into a problem for me. But it's worth a try! I know my friend says it's so great for her and her depression!

It will probably and TEMPORARILY MASK your depression. A MUCH better way to go is with the medical profession. Yes, they use 'drugs', but their drugs are studied and assessed to treat the cause of clinical depression. Marijuana TEMPORARILY masks the effect of depression. Illicit drugs are not a good thing to treat anything ... unless prescribed by a DOCTOR.

personally, I would not say that it is as effective for depression as it is for anxiety. if you have addiction problems I do not think it would be a safe way to go unless you live in a state that does it medicinally and you would have a script for a certain amount. there are lots of natural routes for depression (st.johns wort, meditation, etc) that I would try prior to risking any legal implications.

I have anxiety/depression and smoke a bit. It definitely depends! I would slowly increase how much you smoke and make sure you're in a good mindset before you do! Ive have it go either way. Sometimes I will feel so relaxed and happy but on more than one occasion I've had pretty intense anxiety attacks. I try not to smoke if there is something in particular I know is bothering me.

This is more of a temporary fix though and I would recommend seeing a doctor/therapist to effectively treat depression.

As far as I can tell, self medicating is more of a denial of and hiding from the real issues. Not that this is always a bad thing. We often divert ourselves from issues by taking a walk, going to a movie, taking a vacation, etc. The trick to me is to be honest with ourselves about what we are doing.
