Today's my birthday; reached the big 5-0! Woopppeee; right? Wrong - DEAD WRONG! Either I must be the world's most ungrateful asshole or I just don't get it all...Everyone says I should be celebrating & although I realize a lot don't reach this 'milestone', it doesn't relieve me of my misery and in fact, it makes me feel even more guilt that I don't 'appreciate' this day...I really wish I never woke up today!

Happy Birthday! As happy as it can be. Finding happy moments can be difficult. All the same, I do hope you find a single moment today that gives you pause for happiness.

I think what you're feeling is not all that unusual; when I turned fifty a few years ago I felt the same, "Who cares?" attitude. I wasn't depressed about turning 50, but it just wasn't all that exciting. Actually, turning 51 was worse for me. But in the last couple of years I decided I was either going to have to settle for being miserable, or turn inward and find a reason or reasons to get excited about my second half of life. And while it took some serious searching, I think I have found reasons. Also, I came to the realization that my first half of life went a lot faster than I thought it would, so if I don't want the second half to be a total waste I better get living. That was a huge motivator for me. But, happy birthday, your life is your life for a reason and I hope maybe through some personal searching on your own you'll find a reason or reasons to see the next ten years as an opportunity for excitement.

Happy Birthday, it is a special day, we are all here for some reason. Do something nice for yourself or even for someone else if it makes you feel better. Hugs!

After a while they all seem the same, and to a certain extent they are just like any other day. My 63rd is coming up next month. I will have fun, hopefully the family will be able to come. And then it is on to waiting for the 64th one.

Thanks for the replies; the b-day ended up being just another day on the calendar with 50 being just a chronological milestone. No pause for celebration but reflection on where I've been, where I am, and where (or if) I want to be in the future...

I remember my 50th birthday. I was alone. :Probably menopause is contributing to your sadness and self-condemnation. There is light at the end of the tunnel. It gets better.

LivingWater: I am not female (no menopause)...
