Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
(I know about this because I looked into getting my kids passports so that they could visit Mexico when visiting with their dad when he lived in San Diego. I never did get them, but I was pretty much warned that you have to do it to the letter of the law.)
She has three children. The girls are 16 and 18. They want to stay there to finish school. The boy is 5. My guess is that he is going to stay with her mother until they start the paperwork to bring him here, because his father is in prison and had his rights terminated.
She seems to be a somewhat of a jealous person, or possessive. Our grandmother died over Labor Day 2015. We had a family get together at the lake the day before her funeral. There was spotty cell service out there and when we got home, she was mad because she was unable to get a hold of him all day. They have come so close to breaking up so many times, it seems to be a big waste of time and a lot of money to me.
She is in for a major culture shock. She is not going to be happy. She is going to be miserable. And he is not going to give her enough time to adjust. He doesn’t have the patience for it.
My nephew is 9 years old. He is the sweetest, most loving little boy you would ever have the pleasure of meeting. He is also very sensitive. He was 5-1/2 weeks premature because he had the cord around his neck and was in distress. By the time he was 18 months old, tests determined that he had lost most of his hearing. He got fitted with hearing aids and then got cochlear implants at age 4. He’s a little slow at reading, but he is still very intelligent.
My brother is not patient with him and too hard on him with reading or doing homework, so he gets upset and starts crying. When he gets stressed out, he needs to take a break, then he is fine when he gets back to it. When I help him, he does fine, because I am patient with him. His sister is 7 and is a whiz at reading. I feel that he is being compared to her and that is so wrong.
Regarding therapy, my brother will never go. He feels that even PTSD sufferers only have a weak mind. He is narcissistic, a sociopath, and an all-around jerk. God, help us all!
