Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
As you can guess, that is not possible. Have you sought medical care? Medication is an answer for most people in your situation ... along with other therapies.
This isn't their fault. It's just that on the outside, we look normal. People have a hard time recognizing something they can't see. Comments like "get over it" or "you're just making yourself sad" are common because that's what it looks like we're doing, no matter how hard we're fighting on the inside.
If you can, tell them they're hurting you with their comments. Nobody has any right ot make you feel bad about fighting a disease, and if they keep it up after you've explained what you're going through, they're fuckbags, in my opinion.
The people who really do care about you will at least want to understand, but they probably never will. They can only understand as well as you can explain, and this is a bitch of a thing to try and explain.
I don't really know what to tell you, except that here you can count on people understanding what you're talking about, which can be HUGE when nobody in real life gets it.
Hugs, and I hope that you find peace
