Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I've learned that all my friends have limits about how much they are able to deal with my problems. Mostly I have enough support between family, friends and my online friends here. Leaning their limits and not pushing them too much seems to have worked for me.
They may not be turning their back on you so much as they are not able to deal with the level of support you are asking of them.
In any event, I am happy to meet you, but sorry for the reasons that brought you here.
It feels to me like they are watching me drown without offering any help. Does it feel like that to you? I, like you, do not even understand what I am feeling.
I am so glad you posted here. There are many members who can relate to you. Stay close to the group. Support is here for you.
Wishing you better days.
Please don't take it to heart as most of them just don't understand. Im sorry your girlfriend treated you that way and maybe you would be better off without her, but I will say this too and don't mean to offend you, but people with depression are very taxing on others at times. We tend to focus so much on how we feel that we don't pay attention to either how others feel or how we make them feel.
I wish you luck and please keep posting!
Like my situation, it sounds like your girlfriend just doesn't get what you're going through. In fairness, people who haven't experienced this type of depression don't understand how badly it affects us - something that we here know all too well. I have no groundbreaking advice other than what has already been said. Just keep coming back here. People here can relate to you and offer words of understanding and encouragement. Good luck and best wishes!
Have you ever had a heart-to-heart w/ her to explain exactly what you are experiencing and feeling?
I think sometimes ppl see those of us w/ depression as just feeling blue or having a pity party and we'll snap out of it.
She sounds a bit of a lad. That or her friend who needed food hadn't eaten for a couple of days already so there was a level of urgency?
Without knowing all the facts it's hard to say: but you do need to feel loved and cared for by your girlfriend. If she doesn't love you now, she isn't going to love you more when you have kids....
Take care of yourself. If you don't nobody will.

I was on meds for it at one point that helped it, Topamax. I was on it 'til I lost insurance and it's an expensive drug but helped me immensely. It's usually for seizures but it helped. (My vertigo was so bad that even lying in bed during an episode was too much and I had to sleep on the floor to help somewhat stop the falling sensation)
It's a very good thing that you opened up to your GF and showing her a video was an excellent way to help her understand what you're struggling with.
I'm happy to hear you have an appt w/ a therapist. Doesnt matter who set it up, what matters is you have that appt. I hope the therapist can help you work through these issues and find coping skills to deal with them.
Have you tried guided meditation, by chance? It's the only thing that helps calm me that isn't a pill. If you go on YouTube, there are tons of videos there. Just a suggestion.
