My doc prescribed nortriptyline hcl. all I know is that it's a tricyclic. Anyone know what other name it might be listed as. I can't find much info on it, and I'm support to start tonight, just 10 mg. to see if I can handle it. Anyone taken it, and how were your results? Thanks for any info!

Has anyone tried it with success?

no i haven't tried it. sorry

I tried it years ago and it did not work for me. But I had more energy. I also fell asleep more easily but had a really dry mouth.

I had trouble with the SSRI's. I did try it with no success. Everyone is different and it may work for you. Good Luck.

Ok....I'm a little concerned here. My doc is aware that I've been off fluoxetine (Prozac) since Sunday. I couldn't bear the way I was feeling and told me that I did the right thing by stopping. I just read that you shouldn't take the pamelor if you've taken Prozac in the last 5 weeks. I questioned him about side effects and switching from SSRI's to tricyclics, and he looked at me like I was doing too much research on it. I'm sorry, but if I'm putting something in my body I want to know what it does. Also, he said absolutely no alcohol. I'm not saying I'm a lush, but I do enjoy an occassional glass of wine, so that bothers me. I mean I might have 3-4 glasses of wine at week with dinner (not at one sitting).

yrs ago I went off of Prozac and on a triciclic and didn't have any problems.

Pamelor, Aventyl, and Allegron are all brand names of the generic Nortriptyline. I take nortriptyline but not for depression. It is also used for dematologic neurogenic reasons. I have a patch on my back where the nerves just have gone haywire. It burns, itches, and when not on nortriptyline, I can't stand to have clothing next to it. I've never heard of anyone having success with it for depression.

OK--I found that same article about the 5 weeks. It is written by an RN concerning the Terry Schiavo case and is all about when did her husband take antidepressants etc. etc. It is a smear campaign and I would look elsewhere for information.

By HER HUSBAND -- I mean Terry Schiavo's husband.

i started on this med about a month ago.im starting to feel better

SeekingKnowledge
I'm really nervous about taking this med. The way I felt on the Prozac and Celexa was awful. I mean I felt worse than prior to taking them, instead of anywhere near better. I'm just scared.

I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
