I hope you find this helpful. I know I struggled to find support as well. Wishing you peace.
health clinic. Call churches. Years ago I had Pastorial Counceling.
It was pay what you could afford. I'm Jewish, but non religious so I didn't
care. They had psychologists.
It is if they are paying for it.
Sorry you are suffering.
As for the "its not their business" issue. If your going to get help and that help generally comes in the form of Therapy, you need to get that kind of thinking out of your head. Because Therapy entails building a relationship with your Therapist/Counselor based on Trust....and I guarantee you they will ask about things that you don't think are any of "their business" but until you get past that stumbling block and are willing to work on all things...it won't be helpful or successful.
Take care,
Kat

@sonnycamehome, thanks, I don't know why I've never heard of them or seen them come up in searches. I'll lik into them, thanks again.
@shadowlady @tired thanks!, I may try social services as well.
@OlderCPer I'm ok with opening up to a therapist I "trust". I've tried a therapist before and I got lucky with her, but she couldn't prescribe the meds I needed, so I had to see a psychologist too, repeat everything, get the prescription, but they wanted me to see my primary care physician every month to maintain the prescription, and they had me repeat everything to 4 different people to make sure I wasn't a criminal or suicidal... ultimately paying over $500 / month as well (insurance paid nothing @wanderingvet). However, I couldn't afford that after 2 months, and I moved so I have no one at all anymore.
I probably could get by with with just a friend, but that seems impossible, need to pay up
Psychiatrists prescribe psych meds for Mental Health patients. They are combination Ph.D's/M.D.'s so if you need meds you would go there.
Seeing a Psychologist for meds....not a good idea, they aren't qualified to Diagnose and they aren't qualified to Prescribe meds, regardless of what they tell you. They don't have the Education or Training to do so. I have a Ph.d in Clinical Psychology, I used to do that for a living, we were not meant to dose meds.
Psychologists/Therapists are just for Therapy.
If at all possible try not to go to a PCP/M.D. for Psych meds, once again they are not Educated or Trained in Mental Healthcare and they tend to give out whatever the current popular med the Drug Reps are pushing. They don't have the Specific Training to properly prescribe meds for Mental Health Mood Disorders and often times end up making things worse.
You can also check with your local Social Services offices, most have a Mental Health Program that works on a wage based payment plan. If you live near a major University system, they often have the same kind of Programs.
Just some information.
I don't know about elsewhere, but they got it down for squeezing every penny out of you where I live. I know deep down all I need is a real friend (and free) but no one has time for that, I can't afford the system, so I've been searching for years. I am planning to try the nami site soon.
