Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
While I don\'t know any of the particulars its possible that the other students like her because they only go to her for problems that are sporadic and lesser in nature--like a break up, or a fight with mom. When students see her for things like that she probably tells them its going to be okay, gives them a pat on the back, hands them a piece of peppermint candy, and sends them on their way.
When a person has abuse (or other traumatic experiences) in their past usually more regular counseling is needed. It sounds to me like she just doesn\'t want to deal with the hard stuff. I don\'t know what all is her problem--she could be lazy or, if you want to give her the benefit of the doubt, overwhelmed. Either way, she isn\'t really going to help you.
I would say try and change to this other counselor. Tell her you just don\'t seem to mesh with the other lady you were seeing at this school. Trust me. Often people will go to see several counselors before finding one they truly feel comfortable with. It shouldn\'t seem odd that you would do the same.
An effective counselor listens carefully and asks thoughtful questions that helps a person discover more about themselves. Name calling such as "drama queen" or making assumptions about inner motives is not part of a professional\'s methods.
It might be better to change counselors, but that means you\'ve given up on her. On the other hand, you might be able to help her become a better counselor if you calmly, respectfully and clearly explain to her what you feel that you need from her, to help you heal.
You have nothing to lose by trying this and you both stand to gain.
Wishing you the best outcome
Just change counselors...In time she\'ll probably get fired anyway.

good luck :)
When you make the switch do not try to go back to the old counselor (don\'t make/initiate further contact with the old counselor, but stick with the new one. It is usually important to work mainly with one therapist at a time in cases such as yours, to keep your therapy consistent.
