Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

It is down to forcing ourselves by remembering how much pleasure we used to get from these activities. The more we move out our comfort zone the more it becomes new ways new healthy habits that replace the old ways that hold us down.
Now I think why we have lived in the illness for so long we can not remove the negative thoughts, we have had them for so long it has taken us a long time to learn them and more time believing them every day, so how can we learn new ways only with lots of practice and be willing to approach things in a new way and be ready to change and stick at it.
Example: I was messing around writing to take my mind of the internal turmoil. I was not comfortable that I gave him the advice he needed to apply the new things.
I was practicing playing writing my signature on a sheet of paper, I had about twenty signatures they were all consistent very close I could hardly tell the differnce.
Had a little break to have a cup of tea while I was drinking my tea I started to write my signature with my left hand what a mess and it felt so awkward I stopped after three.
Then a light came on so I kept trying they still looked rough but the more I done the better they looked they were still terrible.
What I got from that when we have been doing things so long it is easier to just to keep doing them that way because we do it so much easier and it is automatic to us.
So my opinion is that to Apply the things we think are good ideas it is going to be so hard to change and try the new thing because one it will be very uncomfortable and awkward, results will be very ugly first time around and so unnatural so it was easy to give in.
So we will have to practice these things over and over again untill they become natural and automatic to be able to apply the new ways, things to our lives.
I guess it could be explained as teaching a dog a new trick it takes lots of patience,
Encouragement practice over and over again and then Bingo the dog gets it.
Someone once said something like Why do we expect different results when we continue to repeat the same old behaviors It takes change to improve!
i am fully convinced i am doing perfectly well with my depression im feeling pretty well, out of my slump and all... my therapist thinks otherwise.
