Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Hospitalization is not the worst thing in the world. I've been there, when I was seventeen. I'm 23 now and haven't been back. It's usually quite short, but can get things done quickly, like switching or increasing meds. Sometimes just having a short break away from real life can help. You have support available 24 hours a day when you are in the hospital, and they communicate really well with the people who NEED to know at your school, but not others unless you want them to. I didn't like my high school's guidance counselor so I to had a teacher that I confided in, and she got put in a very similar position...
Here in California if the PET health system finds out that you are going to hurt your self, thinking about hurting your self, or the sort they might send you to what they call 5150 which I always try to avoid as hard as I can. 5150 is a holding period in a padded room for 3 days and if the person doesn't get control, they might ship the person to a more permanent place, putting in comical way the funny farm.
if you need a friend you can count on me.
What's wrong with the hospital? I've been in numerous times and I've always felt very safe. OK, so I might have used the hospital to get away from the husband for a week or so, but I've NEVER had a bad experience and there were times when it was actually a lot of fun. I laughed my way through. Of course, I did get stabilized as well.
You might be surprised. A hospital might be just what you nee d- a chance to step away from it all. There's only a stigma if YOU let it be. No one stigmatizes heart attack patients do they? No. Well, you have physical issues as well - there's something wrong with what's going on in your brain. It's not your fault and you do not want it this way.
Get some help. Please. And do not rule out the hospital. Really. I'm thinking right now of some of the people I've met in the hospital and it really helps to meet others like you.
Take care and keep safe
is a great equalizer. Believe me, age does not matter. There are people who can help you and some of them are patients. :)
