I have been emotionally mixed up. I just became a grandma. I'm visiting my son and his wife to be with my grandbaby. I'm experiencing some depression, because I know that soon I will have to go home and I live 3 states away. I live a lone and the depression is heavy when I am a lone. I just want to die being so far away from my family. My son had his gun out on the counter and I was tempted to pick it up and shoot myself. It startled me so much that I asked him to put it in the safe. He had no clue why I asked him to put it in the safe. 


I'm worried now when I get home I might do something drastic, because I cannot be with my children and grandchild. I do hope I can get through this!

I had a similar experience. My stepdad left a gun on the kitchen counter and he left the room. I'm a young adult living with my mom and other young adult siblings. Maybe that's why he didn't think much of it at the time. I was tempted to shoot myself, but I just walked away. My point is you can do the same because you are in control and not suicidal thoughts.

I would be lost without my family. I have to have my husband, my son and my mom around me a lot just to get through the day. I think you need to move closer to your family and should not expect yourself to continue alone like you have been,

Maybe you could talk to your son about how you're feeling (I think you should) and you guys can work on coming up with a solution. Maybe if he has a spare bedroom or basement you can stay and you guys can work on getting a new place for you. I'm sure he and his wife wouldn't mind having extra hands to help out! They need you as much as you need them :) Big big hugs!

Thank you every one for the encouragement. Moving closer to him is not an available choice. He is in the Army they change location usually every three year. Flying gets so expensive. I cannot do the long drive by myself. I the fact that I might have to accept the situation, but my heart aches.

Your post is hard to read. I'm so sorry. I've been a single mom for a long time and my children are now grown. I sometimes think about them moving away and what I will do without them. I'm sorry that you can't move closer, but understand the military issue. I agree with gregsbaby above...talk to your son. Maybe not in a ways that would scare him or worry him, but do let him know that you feel lonely without them. See if you guys could make plans to see each other on a regular basis. Plan it and prepare for it...look forward to it. Also Skype in between and call often. But make sure that your relationship with them isn't the only one in your life. Try to connect more with friends or family or people at church that are near you. It's not the same as being with your son and his family, but it can really help with the loneliness. Congratulations on your grandchild! What a wonderful gift!!

SummerW, Thank you for your compassion and encouragement. Your advice is a replica to my therapists. It's hard for me to make friends. I suffer with agoraphobia. However, I do have some connections at church. I'm trying to accept my circumstances even if I feel terribly depressed from it. I think you are right...I do feel a little bit less discouraged when I have set plans to come together with them again. My heart is sad though!
