Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
My first "social shocker" in life came at about age 13 when I graduated from Elementary School to Jr. High and discovered my closest friends now had new friends and I was not in the new circle. I made new friends there and we were close throughout Jr. High, but then I was again back at an empty "square one" when I arrived at High School. Over these past 30-or-so years I had been assuming life would just kind of automatically lead into my having new friends as long as I remained open, but hardly a week goes by without my learning of the death of yet another past or present friend or acquaintance.
I do not know what to think about all of that and how to know what anyone's future might be in the social department, but yes, we are here to care about, share with and try to help each other.
Welcome!
I am new here also, I have been suffering from depression as long as I can remember, I am 58 years old now. I live with a wonderful woman for nine years. She was diagnosed Bi polar before I met her. We both have numerous other medical issusues. We are both on disability, I didn't receive mine for my depression,I have a serious heart condition. But I think going on disabity was the worst choice I made. Besides going to doctors appointments for the both of us, and to the supermarket once a month I have no social life. I have no friends. And the amount of money I get from disability in a month most people make in a week. Atleast when I was going to work I had contact with other people daily. Now if I don't have any doctors appointments it feels like I get up in the morning just to wait for night time so I can go to sleep. I take walks to know where sometimes to break up the boredom.when you are as old as I am it's hard to make friends. I don't have much family left. Sorry for venting on your topic, but I would think twice before going on disability , I was more or less force into it. I was in a coma for two months so I guess the hospital wanted to make sure they got paid so they started the whole process.
On your own you can investigate employment to find out what your options may be.
gentle hugs!
