Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I am probably not making much sense.. I just need to talk.
I'm turning 25 and I have been perpetually single my entire life. And it's not that there is anything wrong with me. And it doesn't make me feel like there is something wrong with me. And it never really bothered me when I was younger, even when I was the only one of my friends without a boyfriend or girlfriend. But a few years ago, I had my one and only serious relationship. It lasted 4 months. I was head over heels in love - I know what you're thinking .. too fast .. but you can't judge a book you never read, and the relationship moved at the only pace it could have.
Ever since then, I've felt lonely. I never did before. Before him, my friends and family were more than enough for me. I wish it could still be that way. But no matter how hard I try, I can't go back, I can't stop feeling lonesome, and I can't return to being happily single like I was before.
So what the hell do I do? I know plenty of people who will get into a relationship for the sake of a relationship - and it's not hard to do. If I wanted, I'm sure I could land me a boyfriend in 2 weeks flat.... but I'm not that kind of person. Despite how awful it feels sometimes, I'd rather be unhappily single than in a fabricated relationship.
When you are in love with yourself, you will be happy alone, or in a relationship.
I do love myself. I am not insecure in who I am. I do not need or want a relationship for the purposes of validation or feeling valuable.
I am still unhappy.
Seriously, I wonder why. Because I thought that if you loved yourself, then you would always be happy. (most of the time. you know what I mean)
People who are never touched in a loving way (platonic OR intimate) do suffer....
I haven't had sex since August.... so closing in on the 6 month mark.
Could have something to do with why this is becoming harder and harder to deal with?
Also, probably, the fact that I'm getting older plays a part too...
