Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Keep in mind that the majority of fb consists of people posting all positive things going on in their lives. It's not a site where someone will say," I struggled to get a shower today.", ya know? That is something you can say here on DS and people won't think you're an attention seeker or anything like that. I separate fb and DS. Fb is for fun and DS is serious(though of course can be fun as well, to me anyway). I really pay attention to my way of thinking when going on fb. When I'm really depressed, I see that I compare myself way more which in turn can have me feeling worse after going on it. So I will then take a break from fb for awhile. I have a 5 minute rule with myself. If at anytime within 5 minutes of being on fb I start to have negative thoughts about myself, I log off and take a break. So it's a balance and it works for me.
I deactivated my account years ago. I still receive phishing emails from senders posing as my friends.
As for your "happy" friends, I've noticed that most people on Facebook exaggerate their happiness. I take what I see on that site with a large grain of salt. They only show you things that they want you to see, and nothing more.
I agree with what everyone else has said in your thread. I too use Facebook for a different reason than I use DS. DS is for saving my life. FB is a way to play around and keep up with my family. And, the one's that I know, they usually read a lot better than they actually are. Of course we are not going to put negatives things about ourselves on FB and neither are your friends. We want others to see is in our best light. So, just remember, no one's life is perfect and yours is your own. Don't let anyone make you feel bad about it if you are doing the best that you can.
