Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I'm on Fluoxetine 60mg which I take in the morning so I think it's probably that. Side effects include insomnia and 60mg is the higher dosage.
It's just so infuriating laying there all night TRYING to sleep and then end up falling asleep during the day cause i'm so exhausted. It means I get nothing done!
I stopped allowing outside forces to effect me internally, I stopped allowing things I COULD NOT control to bother me, and it worked, how do I know it worked? Because every time I slip up my previous problem immediately returns.
How to aid in overcoming this problem apart from what I stated above is to only go to bed when you are tired enough to do so, avoid going to bed with an excited in whatever state of mind. A glass of warm milk works wonders, and so too does the consuming of a banana, munch the banana though because the digestive system for some reason or other struggles to break down un-raw bananas, an over working digestive system will cause you sleeping problems as well, so a general rule of thumb is never retire for the day until at least three hours after your last main meal.
A wealth of knowledge am I not? I have had 30 years of past suffering, I now know the remedy for it, well at least I find that it works for me, I hope it does for you also.
If you are on a med. that causes insomnia, take it only in the a.m.s...Get off the internet a full hour before you want to go to sleep...Try: reading a dull book, having a glass of warm milk, melatonin, valerian root, L-tryptophan, taking a warm bath, listening to soothing music, and meditation. If all of these don't work, there are sleeping pills available both over the counter and by prescription. I found also that benadryl (for allergies) knocks me right out.
Finally, if you can't sleep at night, can you rearrange your schedule so that you can sleep in the daytime? I had to do that for a while and it was fine...As long as I knew I would be able to get a good 8 hrs in, I didn't stress out that they wouldn't start until 5 am
Good luck and I really hope you can sleep soon!
I don't know how you feel about medication from your GP?
But I suffer from major depression and Anxiety, and have been prescribed amytriptilin (unsure of spelling) and It makes you drowsey, I take this before bed and it really helps me sleep now, this drug can also be used to treat depression. Hope this help! :)
I hope you are sleeping now. I think the things that you tried are good starts, and probably staying off of the computer is a good idea when suffering from insomnia too.

the best advise i had was if you cant sleep get out of your bed and then do something like read or something but stay out of bed until your sleepy. you need to train your brain to know that bed=sleep time.
also i found eating earlier helped.
but if im really honest i ended up on sleeping pills
