As usual, I fall asleep OK with a little help from a glass of wine or sleeping pill or both, but then I wake up in the middle of the night wide awake with all my problems racing through my mind. I cannot really remember the last time I had a full night's sleep with out any help from alcohol or sleeping pill or both. On top of that I have had this bad cough the last few days which is not so bad except that I also have a hernia which hurts a lot every time that I cough. I am supposed to see my therapist tomorrow. I had stopped seeing him the last two months and things were going better -aside from the usual insomnia. Now I am in crisis and really need to see him. So, I guess I will have some of that nighttime cough medicine to see if that helps my cough and helps me get back to sleep. Wow, a two for one benefit!

Get a sedative instead. A sedative won't be addictive, and will give you a full night's sleep.
And won't ruin your liver. :)
What kind of sedatives do you mean? What names?
ZzQuil is the sleeping stuff from NiQuil without the cough suppressants....but sounds like you have the NiQuil already....hugs good luck...I do not remember the sleeping pills I used to get in the 1987-89 yrs but I was taking them and drinking too....and then I got to point to want to stop living....also they were not for long term use by my shrink gave them to me for several years....
