Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I suffer from anxiety attacks. Usually I only get them when dealing with my mom. But I had a bad one yesterday. I work in the office of a place that has, among other things, a summer camp for school-aged children. We had a bus going on a field trip and it got hit by a tractor-trailer. I was one of 2 people answering phones and talking to upset parents. One of the staff on the bus had to be life-flighted. The staff at the scene took a couple hours to get back to the 2 of us left behind with any info, and it was difficult to calm parents when you really had no info on anything. We were also bombarded with calls from reporters.
This was a stressful situation....so stressful that I totally forgot about my doctors appointment. Luckily, they were kind enough to reschedule me. Afterward....somehow I got elected to pick up all the food for the birthday party for my mom's boyfriend that same night, and I was already behind and cutting it close.
By the time I came home, I was in the middle of a pretty bad anxiety attack. I shared this with my husband. And he started SCREAMING about how tired he is always hearing me complain about these attacks and how disgusted he is that I am "always" depressed.
I think of myself as very non-confrontational and kind. But the devil in me yesterday told him exactly what part of me he could kiss. And shame on me, but it felt GOOD! I am tired of being bullied by someone who is supposed to love, honor and cherish me. I expect to be treated like I treat him.
He did apologize later. But I am not taking any more crap from him. I have found my backbone and things on his end need to change. I am not sure how my depression is affecting him anyway. It has not overpowered me. I hold a job, take care of my mom, do everything around the house. We go out (when HE wants to), I laugh alot. Just how is disgusted by this depression?! Gah!!!
PS...regarding the bus accident....no one was seriously injured and the staff person is going to be ok.

Glad everyone is going to be ok. As for your husband I am sorry he is not kinder and supports you as he should. Does he appreciate anything you do? Does he actually realise what YOU DO DO.? Good gosh, a job, your mom, all the stuff around the house... You need a break lady. I'm glad you stood up to him and told him a few home truths good on you. Hugs and love x

You shouldn't feel bad for telling him off. He deserved it. It's great that you keep all your plates turning, dealing with your mom, your job, everything you do around the house. Give yourself a pat on the back for all that you do!

Glad to hear everyone on the bus is OK. Keep up the backbone. It's time your hubby realizes all you do. You sound like you have a listening ear when he needs someone to talk too. Actions speak louder than apologies. Apologies mean nothing if he continues treating you like this.

good for you for standing up to him i would of done the same thing ...........i am very happy no one was realy hurt ..................you needto keep that background ........it will afect your spouse if you are depresed just like it would afect them if you had eney illness and so there needes to be good comunication ................and he needes to treat you properly so as not to make you sicker and because it is the right thing to do .................my husband has lived with me for over 30 years and i have been depresed all my life it is better at times and worse at others but we do have good comunication ................i dont talk no bulling from him he tried it in the begining and i stoped that right away he eather changet his tune or he left so he desided he loved me enough to change ..................so i hope you can work things out .........you realy dont need someone screaming at you when you are having a anxiety attack also i took my husband to my doctors a cupple of times so my doctor could explain some things to him that might help to because it is hard for someone who has never experanced depreshion to understand just what we go through ....................................take care ..................god bless
