Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

You are so lucky to have a pet! I wish I did - I too live with my parents after a couple of very unhappy relationships. It feels like I have tucked my tail between my legs and run home, but they are thrilled to have me here. I also have been unable to work for a period of time due to my depression, and I find I am harder on myself than anyone else could ever be. You are blessed to have a friend - I hope the they are of some comfort to you when you need an ear.
You can make good friends here on DS. I have gotten farther along in my recovery reading about other people's situations and how they handled them. The best thing is to know you are not alone in the way you feel.
I will be thinking of you and feeling a kinship with you due to the fact that we are both grown adults living with our parents. Not the ideal situation, but there are others on this site that are much worse off. I am grateful that my parents are good people and at least are there for me, as I'm sure yours are for you. As I suggested, open up to them if you haven't already. This may help with the guilt you are feeling. Peace be with you, my friend.
My father is very hard-headed when it comes to my depression. He doesn't think depression exists, and that it is a weakness that I have - not being able to cope or deal with things well.
My mom does better - she accepts it because she's seen me both well and sick - and accepts that I have little control over it sometimes.
I believe some people look at mental illness as something we choose to use as an excuse. Those types of people will always exist until they choose to open their minds, but I truly believe some people are so rigid in their beliefs this will never happen.
