Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
You are not alone. There are thousands of people on DS .. and you are not alone.
grief counceling has probably done more to give me peace than anything else i have tried. is there a way to get counceling? do you have insurance? (if not, there are many avenues to explore for sliding-scale and free therapy)
my heart goes out to you, and i'm very glad that you don't want to hurt yourself.
hang on, please.
When we lose our parents, we realize how 'on our own' we actually are and it can be terrifying. We have to know the priorities and protect ourselve so we can have the best life possible .. and there is time to grieve and there is time to live .. so try to set your mind to what has to be done at the moment ... perform well on your job .. maintain your home, make friends, be active. The grief will 'back away' to make room for all that energy .. and you will realize one day that you are 'ok' with your mother not being physically available to you. Use your time to grieve but also use your time to live .. your life .. the one you have had of your own since you were born. It is time to use it now .. in spite of the grief and sadness. Living will displace the grief. Do all the living you can .. and you will be OK.
I do believe the most effective is time and 'continuing to live' .. which touches on the 'staying busy' part.
Losing a parent hurts for a long time .. but like I mentioned .. time heals.
