Depression - Teen Support Group
Teen depression is marked by persistent sadness, discouragement, loss of self-worth, and loss of interest in usual activities. Depression can be a temporary response to many situations and stresses. Teens may be more susceptible to depression due to the normal maturation process, the stress associated with it, and conflicts with parents as they become more independent.
Next I will add that Senior year is definitely the hardest year of high school. You grow up with the expectation that it's going to be the easiest, and then are rudely awaken that it isn't. Thus why it's the hardest. I was in your shoes this time last year too. My anxiety took a grip on my whole life. And when it became waaaay too much for me to deal with, I gave up. Mostly. I was always an over-achiever and I was now only doing exactly what was expected of me. But I promise you that it gets better. Talk to your school counselor or a trusted teacher. Or you can even talk to me if you'd like. But I know you're going to make it out of this. You're going to make it out of high school. You're going to get things figured out, even though it seems like you really, really won't at this point.
As for college, my parents basically demanded I go to a University. It took a long time for them to come around to the fact that I simply was not capable of making that big a life changing thing for them to be sort of okay with me just going to community college.
As for your friends, they're probably pretty stressed out this time of year also. It's natural. It's normal. I promise you aren't a nuisance, and if they think you are, then they aren't the kind of people you want in your life anyway.
Like I said before, you can talk to me anytime. I would love to listen to you.
Have a great day :)
What's really important is what YOU want. You're the only one that can drive yourself to achieving your goals. If you don't WANT to go to college then nothing anybody says is going to MAKE you want to go. It could even make you want to go less.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I just keep feeling the stress getting to me, and it has been making more aggressive than I ever want to be. I keep getting aggravated, pissed, and violent more often now when I am usually sweet and kind trying to make everyone happy. It is freaking me out because I have nearly gone off on some of my friends over the smallest thing. I nearly went into a shouting match with the parental guardian that I live with, and that happens almost every day that I really sit down and talk with her. I dont want to be like this. I feel like I am not myself anymore. I have changed so much.
I am a Freshman in college. I am an elementary education major.
I wanted their approval, and to them teaching wasn't a noble profession. It's hard, it really is. But as soon as I became honest with everyone, including myself, I became waaay less stressed. Sure, my parents are still weary on the life path I've chosen, but it 's my decision, just like it is yours.
You need to be happy too. Pleasing everyone is impossible, but it becomes that much easier when you're happy yourself.
I also know exactly what you mean when you say you're getting more aggressive. I call that my "Complete and total raging psychopath self". And she's been rearing her ugly head more often than not lately. I've lost myself, and it's hard and scary and it sucks. I just want to be the girl that my best friend loves. He's helping. He's helping a lot. I'm lucky to have such an amazing best friend, an I know not everyone has that. but, once more, I'll always be here to talk to you.
