Depression - Teen Support Group
Teen depression is marked by persistent sadness, discouragement, loss of self-worth, and loss of interest in usual activities. Depression can be a temporary response to many situations and stresses. Teens may be more susceptible to depression due to the normal maturation process, the stress associated with it, and conflicts with parents as they become more independent.
Your mom wants what is best for you- she's helped you through your past problems with self-injury, so it's obvious to me that she cares for you and loves you. She would do anything for you because you are her beloved child. Confide in her and ask her for help. I know it's hard, but it's the right thing to do. Message me with your thoughts if you want.
I never would have gotten help with my depression if I didn't admit to myself that I had a problem. Others saw it, but I was in denial about it. Sometimes I still him. I think what was so hard about it was that I felt like admitting that I had depression was admitting to some kind of failure, like it was preventable and having it was my fault.
So in case that's the scenario with you, just know that depression is not your fault. And more importantly, it's not you. It may be a part of you, but it doesn't make up who you are. You and depression are two different things, even if it might not seem that way at times. Admitting that you have depression will not make it any more dominant in your life. In fact, it will only help you overcome it.
I hope this has helped. There are many success stories. Depression is not impossible to overcome. You just have to take that first step.
