Depression - Teen Support Group
Teen depression is marked by persistent sadness, discouragement, loss of self-worth, and loss of interest in usual activities. Depression can be a temporary response to many situations and stresses. Teens may be more susceptible to depression due to the normal maturation process, the stress associated with it, and conflicts with parents as they become more independent.
Being unhappy for so long can make you feel weird when you actually do feel happy. But when you do feel happy, hold on to it. If it weren't a great feeling, it wouldn't be such a big deal. But it is, and it is. It can be hard to find something to make you happy when you're feeling down. Watching a "happy" movie can actually make you feel worse sometimes because you think, "Why can't that be me?". But it can. You just need to open yourself up. That can be hard, I know, but you have to try. Talk to someone. Think about a time that made you smile, and smile. Watch the sun rise, or set. It's beautiful, isn't it? There wouldn't be anything beautiful in the world if you weren't meant to enjoy it- by being happy. Put on a dress that makes you feel good, or a pair of great jeans, and just think about how good you feel in them. Then stay feeling good- you're in a great outfit, why feel bad?! Just keep up your spirits.
