Depression - Teen Support Group
Teen depression is marked by persistent sadness, discouragement, loss of self-worth, and loss of interest in usual activities. Depression can be a temporary response to many situations and stresses. Teens may be more susceptible to depression due to the normal maturation process, the stress associated with it, and conflicts with parents as they become more independent.
we didnt choose mental illness, the same as someone didnt choose cancer or diabetes. And its about time we stand up for ourselves. You are not alone in this battle.
I am on Zoloft, and it seemed to calm down my sadness, but lately it's seemed to have no effect. And they've upped to 100 mg.
I am seeing a counselor, and just got out of an inpatient facility. But even in there, all the adults told me was the first four things, what they didn't tell me is how to do them, which is what I really need to know. My next meeting I'm talking to them about group therapy, because that seemed really beneficial at the inpatient facility.
PS. The members & I are always here for you.
Honestly, I struggled for a long time, I took anti-depressants, but in the end, I wasn't feeling any better. There came a point where I didn't know what to do. So then I stopped doing everything. I make a choice that I would feel better, that I would give it my best and try. I took time to figure out what I wanted, and when at first I couldn't think of anything, thought of things that I wanted to do.
I spent a lot of time painting or maditating. I took the time to go back through my life, inspect all the little things and put it all back together again. That helpd me more than anything. I just needed some time to gain control of my life again.
You don't have to have it together all the time, you can let it go once in awhile and take time for yourself and reevaluate your life. Start asking the big questions - who am I? What do I want? How do I get it? Do some soul-searching to find the answers and give yourself the time, be patient.
