Depression Supporters Support Group
This community is dedicated to spouses, children, relatives, co-workers and others who are actively supporting someone suffering from depression or other serious mental illness. Depression can bring about intense sadness, melancholia or despair that has advanced to the point of being disruptive, which can have a grave impact on the ability of others trying to help.
I hear you on the anger. I feel like a more angry person sometimes too. I'm about to hit 10 years in my marriage and my wife's depression has been with us for most of that time. I get angry when I get frustrated at having the same argument and feeling like no matter what path I take, it'll continue to lead to her feeling depressed and angry. I was finally able to sum it up by saying that I feel like no matter what I do, the response will be "I wish you would have done it differently." Anyway, that has led to more anger and at times I've literally punched the wall or a door, which frightens her and I guess to some degree me too.
It's hard though, isn't it? I mean, you can't show the anger and frustration normally because it'll likely get taken as being angry and frustrated with her instead of the depression.
I hadn't heard of medication resistance but I'm glad she's at least trying. It's good that you and your daughter are seeing someone. That can be a brave and hard thing to do, just saying "I need help." You are taking the first step by doing that. I hope your wife is able to get the help she needs but for you, reaching out and getting support is the best thing you can do.
Hang in there.
