Depression Supporters Support Group
This community is dedicated to spouses, children, relatives, co-workers and others who are actively supporting someone suffering from depression or other serious mental illness. Depression can bring about intense sadness, melancholia or despair that has advanced to the point of being disruptive, which can have a grave impact on the ability of others trying to help.
You've obviously tried to make things work, but sometimes you just can't. It might be time to put you and your child first.
You have a right to happiness and if your husband, try as he might, refuses to get the kind of help he truly needs, then there's not a lot you can do except get yourself out of that situation.
If you're at the burnout point, you could end up causing more damage to the relationship and making things even harder for your son.
If you're hesitant to take drastic action, or don't feel it's necessary at the moment, a trial separation could be a good option.
Either way, my heart goes out to you, I hope things work out for the best.
I give you endless kudos for watching out for your son and you this is so hard. Probably much like your husband, my boyfriend is a good man. But he too has a sick twisted view of the world. Everyone is evil and he is paranoid and he just is unreasonable at times. The other night he was yelling so loudly at the TV that I was nervous for the neighbors to hear him
How old is your son? How have you been? Any decisions made?
I think you're right and a good mom for wanting to put your son first, after all, it's the children who need to be taken care of, not the adults! Certainly we all need support, including your husband, but your son needs to be brought up in an environment where he will learn to see the world through a positive lens. I hope all is well and that you've been able to figure this whole thing out.
My advice for your is to focus on your son, in order to prevent problems with his mental health in the future.
