Can anyone help? After putting a post in yesterday about my depersonalization(in anxiety group), someone told me I sound as though I have chroniche dp. I looked up on the internet and found a site that jumped out at me explaining right on the spot how i feel eg. as though the world around me feels like a dream, although i know that it is real, to ponder constantly over why are we here, y r we like we are, that thoughts are strange, that odinary things and people seem strange and scary etc. This diagonised this condition as depersonalization disorder which is a disorder all to its self not just a symptom of anxiety. I wondered if anyone else has been diagonised with this and how and any thoughts or tips. I have seen endless doctors and phsychatrists, and they seem to not know what im talkin about why is it the internet holds more answers than qualified people on the subject? Any help would be good thank you. I feel I am going out of my mind trying to find an answer! This has been going on for a year and a half, its a nightmare!

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
I know exactly what you are going through. It is hard to find a Dr. that understands what you are talking about. It seems as though on the online world, many people understand, but why cant a doctor? Its hard to diagnose DP because dp can acutally be a part of different mental disorders. I have been diagnosed, but I have no tips becuase Im still trying to find whats going to work best for me. I have been having the same DP episode for over a year myself, and I understand where you are coming from. Have you tried any different types of treatment yourself?
This was in the days before the World Wide Web, so research was difficult, if not impossible. I truly felt that I was alone. I thought if I hadn't already lost my mind I was definitely going to lose it at any moment.
Then I came across a small paragraph on depersonalization in a college psychology textbook. I finally went to a psychologist, but didn't tell him what I found in the book. He immediately told me it was depersonalization and prescribed Xanax. The Xanax did nothing. We then went to Prozac and I had a pretty bad experience with it. Finally, we tried Paxil and that did the trick. After nearly two years, I finally felt grounded on the same planet as everyone else. This doesn't mean that Paxil will work for you or Prozac and Xanax won't, I just thought you might like to hear a story from someone who has recovered. I have occasional "relapses" but they are short-lived and I deal with them knowing that they will go away. Hang in there. You're not crazy, you're not going crazy, and there are people out there who know EXACTLY what you're talking about.
Feel free to message me if you have any questions or just want to talk about what you're going through. Believe me, I know how scary it can be.
Also, there is a film (not a particularly great film, I'll admit) called "Numb" starring Matthew Perry. The guy who wrote the film actually suffered with DP for a good portion of his adult life. It has its moments, but it's not a perfect representation.
