The rehab center is sending my dad home in spite of the dementia/schizophrenic diagnoses. I'd been told he needed 24/7 care and could not live alone. He will be there alone because I'm done sacrificing myself.

The laws need to be changed. I'm not the only one this has happened to. It will go on until baby boomers start reaching that age and they realize the dangers of a large generation roaming the streets, dangerous and armed.

I'm surprised they are kicking him out with no place for him to go...and yet other hospitals basically kidnap their patients

You need to get a separate social worker, not affiliated with that hospital. Call the Alzheimers association, they will guide you.

I'm done. I talked to a lawyer and was told I could spend thousands of dollars to conservatorship and have it not go through because of his competence. Seems in 1999 they put dementia patients under the American's With Disabilities act. This means you can't just lock someone up because they are having memory issues unless they do something to harm themselves or someone else. Threats don't count.

Kill someone, burn the house down, they'll consider.

Dad has refused help. I knew this would happen. A nurse came out, but he sent her on her way. Same with the cleaning service. The US is failing us.

Can He be in an Assisted Living place? I would tell Them His Son is responsible

No son. And dad has refused to go to assisted living. Back in 1999 dementia patients were given the same rights as Americans with disabilities, which means he has the right to be home.

A nurse came out to see him the other day so they could sign him up with nursing care. She called me right after and said she couldn't do it because he did not seem able to understand. I told her they deemed him competent. She said that is true, but he is not competent enough to make decisions about future care. She wanted to know if I have power of attorney. I told her no and never heard from her again.

I'm done. I now just make certain he has food available to eat. And that's it. I've got better things to do with my life than to keep running through this legal mess.

My mom called the police so often that they had her placed. She was on high priority, the next available bed was hers.
