My Mom was also placed on the Exelon 4.6 mg. patch about 6 months ago. It has seemed to help but she seems to be having more difficulty lately with finishing sentences. It's hard to know anymore as one day Mom is perfectly clear and the next she is agitated, confused and/or paranoid. I don't know if they will have to put her on the higher dosage but I am hoping this one will last a while longer.

My MIL hadnt been on ANY medication for the dementia when she was under my SIL's care. Once we got her to FL the Dr put her on the Exelon patch and we noticed a change within a few days! Shes done really great with the patch!

My neurologist put me on the 4.5 exelon patch the day I was diagnosed with AD then one month later he moved my up to the 9.5 patch. He said the stonger the better it is suppose to work. I still have had changes over the last year, whether it is because of the patch or not how do I really know I just trust what the doctor says. I think it stablises more than makes a person better. I still have my not so good days where I can not carry on a converstaion and other days I can talk all day long, I do not look at this that I am getting better because I know that as AD goes down hill there is no return even tho I have my good days and not so good days. I do notice what really makes a huge difference in my daily life is the lack of stress, confusion, aggitation from and outside source so on and so forth. The more calm my life is the better each day is, not that I am getting better just not having any kind of crap going on that contributes to any kind of negetive living. The more at peace I am the much better each day is. I really try to live at peace each day and stay away from all the crap, it is nice not to have a care giver, on a daily basis because I would think they may try to do to much for me and now I have to do as much as I can for myself and if I can not get it done I just do not do what I am trying to do unless it would be something that I have to get done then I ask for help. Guess what has helped me the most is learning to care for myself as much as I can and taking it a day at a time. God Bless Phil, Flops and Flossie

My mom has been on the patch for a year. It works great. I find she has done better then taking the pill Exelon. She also take nemida wit it.

My Dad is on the exelon patch. Dad is also on Namenda and Geodon. They give him someting to help him sleep too at night. This works great for him. The Exelon patch is a maintance medication so Don't take her off of it.
If she ever has a reaction to it like a red ring there are things that will help remove the red ring. The ring is from the adheasve.
If she gets a red rash from the patch there is a medication or creme that Doctors can put on that to help that too. If you ever have a problem with the patch consult your doctor and perhaps a secound opinon and a neurologist too. This is long sorry . Houwever I just wanted to share things i have learned from experience so they will help others. wear the patch on one side one day and the other side of the chest the other day. I hope this helps in some small way, belssings ..... facing....

What does this patch do? Would it aid a 56 year old women with medicine induced dementia?

My Doctor had free samples of the Exelon patch. We noticed within 2 weeks that it made a positive difference. Why don't you ask your Doc for some free samples (they are very expensive ....$200). I would imagine that the patch would work the same on drug induced dementia since they target the CNS. Good luck and I hope you, too, have positive results!
