Sweetheart , please, please, please see your grandfather. Hold him, kiss him, look into his eyes, I can bet that he will recognise you. Don't leave it too late. Please see him. When I found out about my mother, she was diagnosed with semantic dementia, I too, had panic attacks,my whole world came down on me and was unable to understand and get through it. What I did was to talk to a psychologist: she is absolutely wonderful and has helped me through each stage. I urge you to seek help. Don't make yourself sick like I did. I ended up in hospital, sick with depression and panic disorder. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Hugs.
Remember that this illness is affecting your grandfathers whole life, every minute of the day. This is about him, not you. So do everything that you can to help him and your grandmother who will appreciate the visit and any help you can give.
