I've been living with my mom who has dementia for the past 3 years. She can still bathe, eat and go to the bathroom herself...I monitor her meds,money, bills, etc,.and I'm trying my best to keep her in her own home, but she's becoming very abusive (mentally and physically) towards me only! (We never got along but I am the only family member that stepped up!) I won't go into detail, but she is absolutely driving me crazy! Can't sleep or eat in peace, calls my job constantly, accuses me of everything under the sun and threatens me constantly! Starting to be afraid of her! My question is; I can' t put her in assisted living because she has no savings, only gets $1400/ month SS and I sure can't afford to pay for it! No family help! Is there any type of facility that would take her on that limited income and would anybody accept her if she was still ok physically? My friend who is a nurse says most homes won't take u if ur able to care for urself ! And who should I contact about this?
Calling you at work should be considered overstepping bounds and I realize that although she does have dementia and her common sense is lacking. If she can remember how to contact you when you're not at home, she realizes how she's treating you. Sometimes, we have to set boundaries on what behaviors are acceptable and what isn't.
