Hi everyone, I hope you're all well.
I have an issue with mum, as many of you know she has Dementia and is being cared for by our step father. Recently we had a family function and mum was in a bad mood, our step father decided that she was going to have a few drinks, well 5 Gin & Tonics later mum was being quite inappropriate with what she was saying, she wanted to go and have a chat with a man at another table and she'd only be joking with him, I told her she can't go over because he might get cross, I was calm and didn't make an issue of it, she pointed her finger at me and politely told me not to tell her what to F-ing do. This was quite upsetting as it was said in front of other guests. It is a side that we haven't seen before and everyone was on edge afterward cause she was determined to go have a "joke" with a total stranger.
I feel that too much alcohol was given to her and personally I don't see the need for it as she is on medications but according to our step father it isn't hurting her and she's happy!!!!
What are people's thought's on this issue ?

For me, I would not want to see my mother consuming any alcohol. It's definitely a behavior inhibitor so if you add that to dementia, it's not a good combination.
I would have been mortified when the swearing began but I'm willing to bet that anyone that was watching her drinking wasn't too surprised.
I'm with you, I'd lean on not giving her alcoholic beverages until one, it's okay'd by her doctor and then if it's okay to limit it to a more private setting such as home.....
I'm sorry you had to go through that but the story was a bit funny! I can't imagine that embarrassment but it does happen.
