Dementia Support Group
Dementia is the progressive decline in cognitive function due to damage or disease in the brain beyond what might be expected from normal aging. Particularly affected areas may be memory, attention, language and problem solving, although particularly in the later stages of the condition, affected persons may be disoriented in time, place and person (not knowing who they...
My mom was also diagnosed with paranoia. Daily, she hid her purse and thought the neighbors were trying to kill her and spying on her.
I had to be with her all the time for about 10 years before she was placed, I called her from work every hour or she would call the police saying someone was torturing me. They, of course would call me at work. Eventually, they had a pop up when she called but had to answer her call each time. Please get some help, I ended up in the hospital from burn out, I hope you don;t and get help.
Huge Hugs to you,
jazzy
Thanks for your reply to my post. I would love to get some help, but I'm never alone. My Mom's eyes are always upon me & listens to every conversation I have on the phone. I don't want to annoy her as I get her wrath & my stress level is high enough. I wish I knew what to do to place her in a nursing home. I'll admit I don't want to deal with her anymore. She's 82 yrs old, has lived a pretty decent life, & she would get better care in a home where they are use to dealing with dementia patients. I haven't had a personal life for about 11 years now ever since we moved in together. She has been a difficult woman her whole life & having dementia just makes her worse. I find myself daydreaming about how nice it would be to be on my own again, to go & do what I want, when I want. Ohhhh FREEDOM.
It will be interesting to see what her doc says to her. Be sure you attend that meeting. And you need to get everything naming you as POA (power of attorney) pronto.
Knowledge is power.
She was a RN & worked with the elderly. I never wanted to be a CNA but when my gram moved in with us & got bad I had to care for her. Now it's my mom. My dad helps her with her shower. She eats one meal a day cuz she sleeps during the day & is up at night. None of us is trained in how to help someone with Dementia. She's only gunna get worse & I don't think any of us are ready for it;. We're already frustrated with her.
You can add me as a friend if you want. We can share things about our mom's.
Take care.
She now has Dimentia and slips between bad days where nothing makes sense from one minute to the next but, worse when she has her good days and remembers her last husband and the beautiful life they put together over 40 yrears of time. She will sit me down and tell me how she is glad to be in a home becuae she couldn't handle taking care of such a big house and cooking and cleaning by herself.
Knowing her, I realize tjhat what she is telling me is true but, underneath that she is saying I miss my life and I am scared becuaser I do not know how I ended up here in a major care facility.
It is so sad it breaks my heart and lately I have een having my own stuff going on which normally my Mom would have been my strentgth. I am being chacked for Cancer and I told the care facility that I was not going to be able to come for a while as my own energy is going. They understand but, the asked that I do not tell my mom as it would make her sad. I agree with it but, I am also torn by it becuase what if I go before she does. It is all so over whelming that I have not been to see her for about six weeks and when I think I can I innevitably have a Dr's appointment
Anyhow that is m,y bit for today. I am taking care of funeral arrangemnts for mom before I get sicker. I will let the state take care of me. Som,etimes these types of choices are neccessary.
Anyhow thanks for being here and I have gotten a lot from other post.
