Does anyone here deal with someone who has dementia and gets very very aggitated at times? The lady that I take care of gets, so mean sometimes. She punches me and kicks and bites and curses at me. The family is very against medicine. She takes a seroquel at bedtime. 25 miligrams. They used to give her a pices during the day but, stopped. They said, "they don't want her dopey". Well, she is getting out of hand. I asked them about giving it to her again and the son in law says yes and the daughter says no. She was extemely bad today and I gave her one. I feel like I did something wrong. Does anyone else use medication and if so what kind?

I do see your point, but be careful about doing anything against the family's wishes. When emotions get high, things could backfire on you. Figure out who has the authority and work with them. If it is the son, go ahead and medicate her. If the meds were prescribed, how can the daughter say no to them?
I suggest that the daughter spend a day and night with her mom to be kicked and hit, then she can weigh in on whether she ought to be dopey or not.

Thriver, that's the funny thing. I'm doing this job because, the daughter can't handle it anymore. She went into a terrible depression. Her mother used to hit her too. I talked with the husband and he said, to give it too her so I am. It's funny, I read the bottle and they are giving her so much less than what the bottle even says. I will try this and hope it gets better. Thanks for your reply Thriver I really appreciate it.

Hope it works out ok. Maybe the daughter needs some meds too.....it is hard what she has been coping with.
