The VA just called and said they are canceling my husband's neurology appointment on Monday and the neuro will call him within 2 weeks for a 'phone follow up'. I said you mean that he is going to evaluate my husband over the phone? And the receptionist said, "yes". I very politely said, "No, that isn't going to work. I mean my husband is getting worse by the day and I am here with him 24/7 and I have lots of questions and issues. No, a phone appointment just isn't going to cut it. I can't believe the doctor is even considering this. I am not mad at you, I understand you are just doing what you are told but tell the doctor, NO, it isn't acceptable." She said, "I hear you. I will give this information to my supervisor and she will call you and you can talk to her about this." I told that I definitely wanted to talk to someone about this and I asked her, "So we are just supposed to sit here by the phone for the next 2 weeks and await the doctor's phone call?" and she said, "yes, that was the plan." I told her again, no he needs to be seen, many things have changed.

Are they frickin' serious? A phone evaluation for dementia? It isn't just what my husband says, it is also things he is doing, how he is walking, his hand is starting to shake uncontrollably sometimes, how will the doctor see these things over the phone? I'm really pissed. I will give the supervisor 24 hours to call and then I will start making waves at the VA.

I almost feel like they are discarding him, well, "he's got dementia, there's nothing we can do anyway so why bother."
