I don't know about labral tears but have much experience with hip pain as my hip was pinned and the pins lodged in my muscle and I had a non union at the hip socket which I lived with for a year before surgeon would believe me when I kept saying something was wrong,
I believe the one right thing I did was continue to do PT and exercise during that year. It kept my muscle strong and when I had hip replacement I had an easy go of it.
If your orthopedic doctor will allow you to do PT I highly recommend it.
It is important to keep those muscles strong. It may take some pain management and dedication on your part but it is worth it.
After my surgery when I would have some pain in my hip I would get up and walk for ten minutes and the pain would ease,
Again I state firmly I am not familiar with labral tears. You should listen to doctor. Also there is a special board apart from DS that got me through my hip surgery. It is called Totally Hip Support. These people know everything there is to know about hips and the support is incredible.
Good luck
