Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It can be caused by something preventing blood from circulating or clotting normally. Join the support group if you are coping with DVT and find others who are going through the same challenges.
I wondered what you did when you needed painkillers? Do you just take more than your daily aspirin dosage? Or do you use another pain killer? Currently I'm taking half an aspirin daily, and when I need pain relief I take 1-2 whole aspirins.
Since your off coumadin you can use Ibuprofen (Motrin), extra strength tylenol, Aleve, etc.
Aspirin itself serves as a antiplatlet medication much like Plavix so helps reduce the risk of arterial clots. Ibuprofen also acts the same.
Usually, folks who don't have a clotting disorder are recommended by their physician to take aspirin as a preventative measure after having a DVT/PE and completing their treatment with Coumadin/Warfarin. For those of us with clotting disorders, aspirin does not prevent venous clots (DVT/PE). Here is some info regarding this for those interested:
