Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. I was dx with superficial vein thrombosis last year (I think), my calf had swollen & was very tender to touch. At the time it took about 3 weeks to get that.
On Thursday I was out on my scooter & when I got home my right calf & foot was swollen heaps. I couldnt work it out as it was cold & I had actually got soaked. Friday I woke up & calf is still swollen & by Saturday it was still swollen but I have large dark purple/black bruising on inside of bottom part of leg & also behind the knee. The biggest one is on about calf level.
I went to the gp & saw the Dr that was on, he was concerned about the swelling & pain (hurts to walk on it which is great as left leg is weak from ms), I had blood tests for platelets & clotting factors but wont get the results till I go back to the Dr on Tuesday morning.
Today the back of the leg is very painful even when i am resting with it elevated & the bruising did spread a bit more & where it was light is now dark.
I am beginning to wonder if this could be dvt/svt as it is so painful. Looks like if you pricked my skin blood would gush out. When I had the blood tests the spot kept bleeding for about 30mins & I am not on blood thinners.
Does this sound like it could be something to worry about?

Has a part of routine surely you should have a blood test and a dopper test ASAP

She said the dark bruising & pain is because I have had a lot of cortisone in the past - including methylpred drip which is 1000 each day for 3 days.
Didnt really set my mind at rest as nothing I can do about it as apparently my skin is very thin which is why the bruising is so big & dark.
I guess I have to go with what she said but it doesnt explain the pain or cramp/vice feeling. Will wait & if more come up or pain gets worse will go to er I guess as they will do doppler scan for check I would think.
Does this sound plausible reason for the bruising & pain?

But I have never had swelling of just a leg. More like swelling of my whole body and weight gain in general. Is it possible to get a second opinion to get a doppler? Steroids cause pain and bruising but the swelling seems very suspicious to me. (I have taken too much prednisone over the past 20 years :-) ).
Hope you get an answer soon. I walked around for a month with a DVT because no one would listen to me.
