Hi,
I have never experienced an embolism but I have had three separate incidents of DVT's in both legs. I am on Coumadin for life as the last two DVT's were unprovoked.
I am a little confused as to why they cannot find out what caused the clots in the lung. Did they scan your legs? Arms? Did they test you for a blood disorder? You need to get those answers.
You cannot totally rely on your doctors as from what I've experienced, sometimes I know more than they do as I have all the time in the world to do research on the internet and at least become more aware of what's happening to me.
How old are you, may I ask?

I was on blood thinners for 10 months after my bilateral PE & DVT, & got to my perfect, steady INR close to month 9! Then I came off them, got a leg ultrasound only to see if the clots were gone (they were), did blood work for the whole genetic testing thing, which was negative, so they never could say why I clotted. I was told if I clot again, then I’m on thinners for life, but I’m almost 5 yrs out, & so far so good. I’ve always been really healthy so was blindsided by this, & yes it’s a very scary illness, with little information post clot out there. I relied on this site for information during my recovery, & seeing so many people posting about their experience made me realize that the worst part was actually over, & now just about healing. While everyone’s recovery is different, & it’s not always easy, you can get well again & get on with your life. I know it’s hard to envision right now, but it will get better, just going to take some time.

I did have my legs scanned, but not my arms. They said no clots in my legs. Had the blood tests for disorder done, but not back yet. I see that doctor end of next week. My INR still not right, but I'm only 3 weeks into this. My memory is foggy and I feel wiped out. Anyone else felt that?

It took my doctor several months to get my INR in range. I had had two previous DVT's but was unable to ask both doctors how many mg's of Coumadin I was taking. My doctor used the regular protocol and she had me taking 5 mgs. At one point my INR went to 5.8. Finally one of the doctors answered her and I had been taking 2 mgs which is very low. Been taking 2 for the past two years and have been stable.

Your body has been through a lot, & 3 weeks isn't long, so it's normal to feel like crap for quite a while. For a couple of months my memory was toast, & it scared the crap out of me, but found out that it's very common after diagnosis. Good news is it doesn't last. The fatigue was a bear though, & that took me a bit longer to get over. Since I'd never really had a serious illness, I thought I'd be ok in a couple of weeks, but nope, it takes a LOT longer. Besides recovering from the event, the lovely side effects of thinners & giving myself shots sometimes was just another thing to deal with. A tip for blood thinner tracking: my doctor gave me a little paper calendar with my dosages each time I went, & I kept them. Since I've been off them for ages & didn't want to keep all those papers, I scanned them into my computer, so worst case if I ever have to go back on them, I know exactly what doses worked & what didn't.

I'm thinking of getting a second opinion as I'm so confused about what the he'll just happened to me..lol. I'm so glad to have this forum to vent and unload. Thanks!

Hello everyone I'm 33 years old anyway on August12 of this year I had this pain in my leg that felt like a charley horse smh my husband try to rub it out it stop for awhile but then it started backup again anyway so August the 16 I decided to go to the emergency room cause I start limping I gets there explain what's wrong they did the d-diimer test it was high 1600 so they said we think you got blood clots in your leg so they begin to give me shots in my stomach got admitted in the ultrasound my leg didn't see nothing did a CT scan found it DVT so they said it might have travel we have to scan your lungs Vascular found a small one in the lower lube mind you know short of breath no chest pain normal breathing vitials great Thank God he is Able back to the story I went on a Wednesday I was suppose to get released on Thursday I had problems with my insurance so stay another night Friday came still insurance problems until 8pm Friday night my insurance paid for my medicine I said to myself the devil is a liar and I rebuke you Satan cause I'm going home today smh im trying to be normal I broke down and cried praying to my lord just lead the way and touch the blood Amen they still trying to find out whats the cause but I believe it came from sitting down at work for 4 hours straight 5days a week and I meant to mention it to the doctor but I was so in shock I forgot but I have a appointment with the hematology October 2
