Next week I will be meeting with a vascular doctor to discuss looking for venous insufficiency and DVT. I suffered severe stage II hypertension at the beginning of August and was spilling protein along with sterile pyuria and epithilial cells in my urine from a fresh catch. They did an MRI of my renal arteries and discovered a blockage on my left renal artery. They did an angiogram but found nothing there and nothing in my femural arteries as well. The 1 in 10 "false positive". My neph. did tons of blood tests and a 24 hour urine test and everything came out negative. So, he said other than me seeing the vascular doctor for venous insufficiency and possible DVT he figured my bout of severe hypertension was due to "stress". No more tests, no more worries to him at least. Of course I feel completely different about the whole thing since I have had hypertension for over 11 years and have NEVER had such a long stretch of severe hypertension as I have had recently. Believe me I have had much worse stress than what I had when I discovered the high bp.
Basically right now I just need to find out something from you guys to keep me going till the vascular guy can find out what is wrong with my legs. Can I go walking for exercise? I have been walking in stores for long periods of times but I always come home and experience swelling in my ankles, tight calves, and very painful thighs. I am concerned that continous walking could possibly cause a clot to break off and travel where its not supposed to. I really need to lose weight because I can basically starve myself and I still do not lose any weight. Please help me figure this out because I am totally clueless right now! Thank you!

I'm not sure if I am any help..
My mum has DVT her legs are where they start off (Im not sure on if thats the norm or what not)...whenever they find clots she's banned from even standing and has to wear stockings untill they operate.. they said the clots can travel the more active you are.
I have no idea if this helps.. but just the advice mum is given when she has clots.
So I guess taking it easy is a good idea :)

Susanna, my doctor just recently gave me a prescription for a diuretic. I think its a cop out personally. Probably my insurance is slow in paying him and he just wants to be rid of me. Well, I am having the leg scan on Friday so I guess we shall see. Either way I still want to go to schoool. Hopefully you will be able to start walking soon for your weight. Also, if you have an indoors swimming pool then I would definitely go swimming. Itis one of the best ways to lose weight and become more healthy! Take care now!
But PLEASE if you have any feeling as though you may have a clot go to the ER. Don't play the waiting game. It's not save to wait when a DVT is suspected. Please keep us posted.
