I am wondering as to people's experience getting underwritten on term life insurance post-DVT.
In my own case, I am 9 months post DVT (no known cause), still on coumadin. I was approved to be underwritten at the regular non-smoker rate, whereas I was at a good preferred rate before (my premium went up about 40% to add more insurance). I was told that, in theory, I can re-qualify for preferred rates 5 years post event if I have no recurrence.
Was wondering:
1 - If any underwriters will write policies at a better than standard rate for someone with a recent DVT and no other health issues.
2 - If anyone has experience qualifying for preferred rate some number of years post-DVT.

I was denied but was in the middle of underwriting when I was diagnosed. I had actually recieved the policy a few days post dismissal but i did not feel right about signing it because I had the DVT and PE after my application but prior to it being underwritten. I am glad to hear you were at least offered it even though at the higher rates. I will reapply in August.

For my underwriting stats, I'm average height and weight, active, non-smoker, non-drinker, no major family history besides FVL. Even though it's been more than 5 yrs and they didn't pull my hospital charts, it's plastered in my other charts at various doctors, so I know they saw it.
I work with a lot of clients in the insurance industry, and you can have an informal inquiry done that won't show up as a denied app on your record. That will give you a feel for what different companies underwriting criteria is.
When you apply, answer the questions as though your'e in court - only answer what is asked of you; don't volunteer your life history.
