Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It can be caused by something preventing blood from circulating or clotting normally. Join the support group if you are coping with DVT and find others who are going through the same challenges.
My case is different from yours, because I have protein C deficiency; protein S is fine. But here is my story: I had a DVT two years ago and both my two hematologists believe that happened because I took bcp for many years, which I shouldnt having that deficiency. But I didnt know I had it. Now we know that this problem runs in my mothers family. However, none of them (5 women and two men) had any problems, only poor circulation and varicose veins. The thing is that none of those women took birth pill control. And I did. So the doctors think that I had a DVT because I added it to the blood. A cousin of mine (my mothers related) had a PE a few months before I had the DVT. So I stopped the pill. That was the advice. Nothing more. I was on warfarin for six months and then I stopped it. I still wear my compression stockings but I have to confess that I skip them very often now because of the hot weather and the beach. I was advised to wear them imperatively during long car trips and flights, and have heparin injections during long flights as well as during pregnancy, if I decided to have a baby. And thats all. Of course I know Im at risk of having another DVT or even a PE, but one of the hematologists said I was too young to stay on warfarin after an episode, having in mind that I took the bcp. The other one wasnt so optimistic and wanted me on warfarin for life. I had to choose. And I chose not to. Hope never to regret it
The best of luck,
Mathy
