Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It can be caused by something preventing blood from circulating or clotting normally. Join the support group if you are coping with DVT and find others who are going through the same challenges.
I have no idea whether your symptoms are anything to do with taking the drug or not, but I am also interested in the possibilty of alternatives.
For those people on Lovenox / Clexane long term or for life, how do you get on taking that, side-effects wise?
Obviously the injections aren't lovely, but are there significant day to day side effects other than bruising / lumps at the jab site?
The reason for my interest is the freedom that you can have with Clexane that you can't get with Warfarin - eat what you want, no INR testing, dosage determined by bodyweight, etc.
I know you have to get your blood tested every so often to check platelets and potassium, but are there any other problems? Osteoporosis gets mentioned, but is this a realistic problem or a rare thing?
There are newer oral drugs that some people have mentioned, how do they measure up and what are the restrictions with those?
Comments please, knowledgeable people =) I would also like to know more!!
My issue with the shots is if you have to be watched for your platelets, as I am watched now due to them being a little low from my Leukemia medication. I have to be careful with too many health problems to take into consideration.
I appreciate all the answers and everyone sharing what their experience is. I think it helps a lot of people.
Hope we get some postings from people who are doing the Lovenox for a long time.
I do get frequent CMB done being I am on 29 medication for other health issues. All the other specialists keep a close eye on me.
My side effects are bruises from the shots and the knots they cause. I haven't been told of any higher risk of osteoporosis I will know in a year if have any loss of bone mass. I get the Dexa scan every two years due to other risk factor. The three doctor who are most concerned about my bones havent discussed with me any additional risks with Lovenox.
We know that my current plan has result in no lose in 4 years. This would be the only new factor. I know I have looked for long time patients on Lovenox and they are very hard to find.
On Gallbladder stay away from all fats no butters, no animal fats that will lessen your risk of a gallbladder attack. My dad lived on chicken plain, jello, toast and apple sauce until he had his gallbladder out. I was luckier being I went from have severe symptoms to removal in two weeks.
Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
Did you have trouble with Coumadin, being your on the Lovenox.
Its tough when you have so many other medical problems to deal with. I wish you well with everything your going through. I think I am reading too much. I see so many people getting the filters put in, and then having trouble with them. I posted to see if anyone has had a huge clot that was treated successfully with just meds.
I had a massive amount of large clots in both lungs and a clot in my right leg. I was treated with Heparin and Lovenox in the hospital and at discharge just Lovenox. My lungs still have a few small clots and my legs have nothing. After nine months CT scans show nothing new.
After about three week post find of PE and DVT I did have a filter placed only due to the fact in my left leg a vein burst and it was decided to place the filter my last days during my second stay.
Also, try taking your medicine with food and see if that helps.
