I have seen the inexpensive compression hose at Walmart. Personally I can't wear the particular brands they carry. If there is any chance that you can visit a Walmart store and try them on, I would highly recommend it. The anti-embolism ones they carry are the ones that are used in hospitals while patients are in bed, not what you want. The Tru-Form brand has the compression that dvt patients need i.e. 20-30. I tried Tru-Form brand and they were so tight they were cutting off my circulation. They work for some people. Really better to try them on before making a large purchase. You can call a pharmacy at any drug store and ask if they carry compression stockings. Most do, like CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, etc.

I was giving out the advice for wal-mart stockings as i have been wearing them for awhile now, they are black and they are not like the ones in the hospital you must of seen the wrong ones. I highly recommend these since they do not wear out as easily and they stay up better unlike the others that slide down all the time, wal-marts site does not show them which sucks because a lot of people cant get to there stores or like danconnor who lives where there is no wal-mart.

I use Jobst 20-30mg, not cheap but my dr says that cheaper ones don't hold up. He noticed they ere good ones befoe I told him the brand. I'd be interested in cheaper ones though. You can try foryourlegs.com for all kinds of brands but honestly, I've never seen any compression stockings for 5 bucks even regular men's socks.

Many thanks to all of the people who replied with suggestions and advice to my request about inexpensive compression hose. I apologize for not writing this note sooner than now I lost my connection with the internet for about two weeks.

The Walmart internet address which emt4 showed us was very helpful. I had earlier found this same page, but then lost it and simply could never get back to it. So, if anyone is interested in visiting the Walmart information for compression hose, Id recommended saving emt4s message.

Theres a major problem with Walmarts page it doesnt provide any kind of sizing chart. I managed to telephone Walmart concerning this lack of information, but they werent able to help me at all. As a result, I made up my own chart for the thigh-high models that Walmart carries I simply looked at and recorded the information which each item of thigh-high hose has. If anyone is interested (and if I can manage to scan my chart), I can share this information. Its actually quite simple.

I also tried the for-your-legs site, but found their prices somewhat high. I have previously ordered Jobst and Sigvaris and have been very pleased with these brands. They are of good quality and expensive (unfortunately). I was hoping to find cheaper hose for everyday/home/sporting use. By the way, I have bought my Jobst and Sigvaris hose through Ames Walker and Ive actually discovered that Ames Walker usually has various kinds of specials on this kind of expensive hose, which brings down the out-of-pocket cost to less than other sites offer.

I now need to check out the various pharmacies such as Walgreens and CVS.

I have not used them yet, but will try them when my current pair can not be sewn at the toes anymore. (I wear jobst pantyhose, 30-40 and am on my 3rd month, and almost at the end of their life, even rotating 2 pair)

I found the same problem - my compression tights lasted no time at all, considering how expensive they are, I'd hoped for better!

Don't mean to highjack this thread, but am wondering, how do you guys wash your stockings - hand or machine ? I was advised to only hand wash, but have been washing them in my front loader washer since day 1 and have not had any problems with them yet. My lycra cycling wear does not get beat up in the washer so I figured these stockings should stand up to it as well. Hope I'm right

I hand wash in cold water with woolite - too chicken to risk the machine - but now that I know it works for you....nah, I'm chicken

I made the mistake of order compression stockings off the internet. i paid $100.00 for them and I did the messurements just like there website siad and they were to small. But I tried to exchange them or at least get my money back, but they have a policy that if you try them on you can not exchange them or return them. So beware of buying them online. Walgreens also sells them pretty cheap (around 20 bucks for some) and you can get them online, that is if you already know your size for the brands they sell.

You can return and exchange them. I ordered wrong color by mistake but I wanted to try them to make sure it was the right size and they exchanged my compression stockings at no charge. I was very impressed and since then I order only from them.

I feel there are many more choices online than at my local pharmacy. I feel also they are more knowledgeable since they only sell compression stockings, socks or braces.

I am new here and it is nice to see many people sharing recommendations !
