I had chemo in 2009. It made me sick, so I was in bed most of the day. In April 2009 my right leg swelled and did not go down overnight as normal fluid retention does. It was diagnosed as a blockage in the femoral vein. It meant a very boring week in hospital. I finally convinced them to let me out, saying I can just as easy lie in bed at home as in here. I was put on Warfarin. I have been on it all this time. The leg is still larger than the other one. There is an area on the lower leg that has started to seep fluid if the skin gets the lightest scraping. I have tried Witch Hazel, white vinegar, burn cream (SSD), A&D cream, Calendula poultices. Nothing stops it. PA-C put me on a water pill and Potassium supplement. The water pill was a problem because I also suffer overactive bladder. The water pill did seem to help. The week that I took it the area did dry up and seemed healed. I ran out of bladder meds and had trouble getting more of it, so I quit taking the water pill. Now the seeping has started again. If I put Calamine Lotion on it and prop legs on a couple pills at night the seeping eases, and swelling goes down.

Yes, they do make you run to the loo a lot at first, but after I'd been on them a few weeks, I found that they took 45 mins to work, then I 'went' every 10 minutes for about the same length of time, after that no more than usual.
I think if you persevere, they do help.
