I know that everyone is different for their dosage of Coumadin. Once I was able to get my INR relatively stable (between 2.5 and 3.0) I was on 3mg. I did notice, however, that the time of day I got my blood test relative to my Coumadin dosage did seem to make a difference, as did what I ate. If it is any consulation, I am now off Coumadin and my clot is still there (the ultrasound will generally show that it is still there). But my doctor has assured me that by now it has been grafted to the wall of the vein and will not move. If you are on Coumadin, the clot shouldn't move - that part of the reason for taking it.

Size has really nothing to do with Coumadin, at least that's what my docs have said. I take 7.5...sometimes 10mgs if it drops low. Why are they trying to keep your INR higher? Did you have a PE?

I was on 2.5mgs the whole time. I was on 5mg/day the first week and my INR was 4.9 - yikes!
And size has absolutely NOTHING to do with the way your body works to absorb coumadin. They use your size to determine a first dosage, but from there it depends on how your liver metabolizes it. That's one of the reason's you're not supposed to drink a lot while on coumadin. There are also genetic markers that they can look at to see how well/quickly you absorb the drug.

I'm on 7.5 4x week, 10 mg the other 3 days a week. As far as your clot... eventually it becomes a part of your body - I liken mine to a speed bump and my blood just has to move around it now.

I start at 15mg at first a year go my INR jumped to 4.6 From 3.5, so they reduced it to 12.5 mg and my INR is 3.5. I am like greenstar my DVT has become part of my body.

I've been on 12mg since June, I've been pretty stable (except for a couple of weeks) at 2.5 - 2.7. I have no idea why I have to take such a high dosage - my blood seems to be like tar ha ha.

They keep upping my dose, up to 7mg now. INR gone down to 1.6. Was 3.7 at one point at just 5mg although im doing more exercise nowadays. Went hiking up hills yesterday!
