I had a dvt in my left leg in May and I have been on Coumadin ever since. I have had a whopper of a headache since last week and it seems to be getting worse instead of better. I told my doctor last week about it, and she said to take Tylenol. I have tried to use Tylenol sparringly, but now my headache will not go away. I don't want to sound paranoid, but have any of you found a link between headaches and DVT and/or coumadin?

Are you taking any medications other than Coumadin? When I was first put on Warfarin I was also on a Blood Pressure pill. Both the ER doctor and my own doc assured me there would be no interaction between the two. Within about 3 days of starting Warfarin I began getting a bad headache that went on for about 10 days straight. I called again and asked if it could be an interaction between the two drugs and was always told it wasn't. I decided to go off the high BP meds and a day later the headache went away and never came back. Of course, that didn't help my BP too much, but did prove that this stuff mixed together can cause some bad reactions - even when the warning labels say it shouldn't.

Omgoshness I have terrible headaches and have had them since starting coumadin my doctors said coumadin does not cause headaches and they are pissin' me off because I never had headaches until I started coumadin!

Hey Jass, Welcome to YET another place. Yes, we keep on popping all over the place.
Most Dr. will only mention the known side effects you see in the books, but we as patients know of many more...

Brain fog: where you have to really concentrate on something that normally( OFF of warfarin) comes second nature.

Plays with your emotions

thinning and lost of hair

Always cold

Headaches

and ...

Not saying that everybody has all of these, but those are the major ones.

Thanks All!

I called my doctor and she sent me to the ER yesterday. They drew blood, poked an IV in with Morphine, and took a Catscan. Three hours later, they said my Catscan was normal (worried about bleeding in my brain), my INR was 3.1 (within normal for me), and sent me home with Vicodin for the pain. Still no explaination for the headache, which I still have, except that it is a migraine.

When I was first prescribed Coumadin by my PCP, I also started to have headaches. I was then taken off the coumadin by a hematologist and prescribed Arixtra as a "heparin bridge" before being slowly returned to coumadin (and off the Arixtra). This, coupled with specifying coumadin over the generic seems to have made a difference. Also staying hydrated.
