Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. I got my DVT nine days after my first baby was born. I have been on coumadin for 7 months now and my leg still swells up when I walk or go upstairs. The ultrasounds say that my clot is still there, too. I'm still hopeful that I'll be getting off of coumadin one day (soon!), but if not, is it safe to try to get pregnant while still on it? I know that once I'm actually pregnant, I'll be on Lovenox shots instead of coumadin. I'm just concerned about even trying while on coumadin. My OBGYN says its OK because there isn't a heartbeat in a fetus until wk 8 or so, but wouldn't coumadin be affecting a fetus before then, too? I'd love to hear any of your experiences...
One thing I can attest to is that it is possible to have a healthy baby while on Lovenox (Clexane). It can be a bit more risky though but life is risky!
